Swedish School |
Welcome to the Swedish 'Weekend' School in CambridgeThe Swedish School in Cambridge was formed in 1993. We meet on alternate Sundays between 10 and 12 at the Community Centre in Over, located 20 km northwest of Cambridge.Any child from age 2 and onwards is welcome. The only requirement is that at least one of the child's parents is a Swedish citizen. Swedish speaking families without a Swedish citizenship are welcome subject to space. The annual membership fee is £30 for families with Swedish citizenship £50/term for other families. The main objective of the school is to help the children improve their Swedish language skills and to give an insight to Swedish society. The classes should be seen as a complementary support for the children's Swedish. The school conists of a pre-school group and a school group. In the pre-school group the children sing, play and do crafts together with their parents and teacher. From age 6 the children can start the school group where we read, write and count in Swedish. Both groups talk about Swedish traditions, culture, sports, history and geography. Swedish books can be borrowed from our library. All parents help out preparing the classrooms, making coffee and mix squash, and tidy everything away at the end. Every year we celebrate Easter, Midsummer and Lucia. In January we arrange a Christmas party for the children. We also aim to go on a school trip every May. The school association meets twice every term to plan the on-going activities. Everyone is welcome to these meetings. We need help and commitment from the parents to succeed. We hope you will enjoy the Swedish school. | |
